Gutter Care

Gutters and downspouts that keep water moving

Gutters only work when water has a clear path from the roof edge to a safe spot away from your foundation. A little routine goes a long way.

01

How often to clean

Many homes do well with cleaning in late spring and again after leaves drop in fall. Homes under tall trees often need an extra visit.

  • Remove leaves, needles, seed pods, and shingle granules
  • Flush each run with a hose and watch where water goes
  • Look for standing water that signals a slope problem
02

Downspout checks

A clogged downspout can quietly overflow an entire gutter run. During a rain, watch each outlet for steady flow.

  • Confirm extensions carry water several feet from the foundation
  • Check that splash blocks have not shifted
  • Listen for gurgling that can mean a partial clog
03

Drainage awareness

Soil around the foundation should slope away from the house. Puddles that linger near the walls after a storm are worth noting and monitoring.

04

Ladder safety first

If gutter work needs a ladder, use a stable one on level ground with a helper nearby. If you are not comfortable at height, consider hiring a qualified professional.
